South of France wedding venues

Languedoc-Roussillon

Languedoc-Roussillon the picture perfect wedding location

Recently we caught up with the lovely French wedding photographer Kerry Morgan. Here she gives us the lowdown on the South of France’s best kept secret for wedding venues… the region of Languedoc-Roussillon and some of her favourite wedding venues in that area. Over to you Kerry!

Getting married in the beautiful South of France is a dream for many brides and grooms. The weather is great, and with more days of sunshine than in the UK many couples are drawn to the blue skies, the long evenings, and of course the wonderful light we are blessed with here.

When people hear ‘south of France’ they often think of the Côte d’Azur and Provence, but Languedoc-Roussillon is seldom mentioned. It’s like a well-kept secret! Great beaches, beautiful countryside, fresh seafood and abundant wine. All the things you would associate with its more well-heeled neighbours! However, here in the Languedoc, everything seems more like real France. Perhaps how Provence would have been before the jet-set moved in and drove the prices up. The savvy couples who do their research often find venues that are more realistic budget-wise. Of course, it’s not only about the price. This part of France has an authenticity that really embraces you, and stirs the senses.

Whether you are after a rural farmhouse in the middle of sprawling vineyards, filled with rustic charm, or a grand château with high ceilings, antiques, and a private pool, there really is something for everyone in this region of France.

As a wedding photographer based in the Languedoc-Roussillon there are a few venues that I have enjoyed shooting at.

chateau roquelune

Chateau Beauparc

The façade of this wonderful chateau really makes it stand out from others in the region. It has an elegance all of its own. One thing I really had a fondness for as a photographer was the well-stocked garden there. Antique roses, and pretty shrubs and trees, made it easy to find beautiful angles.

Couples have the choice of getting married in the chapel, under the large oak tree in front of the beautiful fountain, or inside the orangery in the event of rain. The boating lake at the top of the park is a nice addition, and a little row around the lake makes for fun pictures.

The drinks reception can be held on the huge lawn, and guests can enjoy the banquet under a new covered marquee area. The chateau also has a swimming pool, which is perfect for the day after the wedding when your guests might want a BBQ.

Chateau de Blomac

The chateau is set in parkland and has a few fantastic wooded areas. Chateau Blomac is a family-run venue, and they can help you with all the aspects of your wedding planning.

You have a choice of al fresco dining on the lawn, or under the covered terrace. They have an area called “place de la fête” which is very cool. It has a tent for dancing, a cool little bar area and a chill out area for when the dancing gets too much. I loved the beautiful planting which was great to use in the couple’s portraits. The lawn is a great place for the ceremony, and you can move up to the pool-side for the drinks reception, or over to another lawn surrounded by beautiful trees. There is also a pretty chapel for blessings too.

However, what really stands out at the venue is how personal it is. Because it’s run by a family, they really do hold your hand and make sure every aspect of your day runs smoothly.

Chateau du Puits es Pratx

Chateau Puits Es Pratx

Chateau Puits Es Pratx is a gorgeous chateau, and I really enjoy photographing weddings here. You can get married in the delightful chapel in the local village, or on the elegant lawn next to their pretty pond, or even in the small vineyard behind the chateau.

The inside of the chateau is very typically French, and there is ample space for your guests. A heated swimming pool, two spas, and a health and beauty treatment room for relaxation, make it the perfect place for visitors to relax.

The courtyard where dinner is held in good weather is really gorgeous, and has lots of space for your guests. The in-house chef is superb, and the atmosphere fun and relaxed.

I took my couple out for pictures in the vineyard during golden hour (the last hour before the sun sets) just before dessert. It’s a great idea to build in a couple of sessions for portraits, even if it’s just 15 minutes. This way you will get variety in your pictures and make the most of the differing light.

Chateau Legrand

Chic, and full of vintage glamour with the wow factor, Chateau Legrand is a pleasure to shoot at. Nestled in vineyards and the Mediterranean countryside, it provides the perfect backdrop for a wedding.

Up to 120 people can be accommodated in elegant suites and apartments (some with their own pools), so you can have all your guests staying in the same place. You can get married at a beautiful local abbey or on site. In front of their greenhouse is a popular spot. It was designed by Gustave Eiffel (the same chap that designed the tower!).

Dinner can be held on the terrace or inside the chateau. They have a great area downstairs that has a real Paris café vibe, and there were also pretty walkways on which to shoot the couple’s portraits and groups. They too have an in-house planner to make your wedding planning a breeze.

There is a huge amount of choice when it comes to venues if you are getting married in Languedoc-Roussillon, and if you are not familiar with this part of France, maybe it’s time to take a trip!
