Chateau de la Citardière is an exceptional wedding venue located in Western France, near Vouvant, one of the most beautiful villages of France. The domaine is like its own little island, surrounded by water and a majestic forest.
The Chateau sits at the heart of the largest forest in Western France, among 5,500 hectares of nature. After crossing the Roman bridge, come through the Chatelet gate and discover a preserved environment where ancient trees are nourished by the surrounding lake and moats. This U shape Citadel provides a feeling of intimacy like no other.
We love the character of this wedding venue and how the renovation has focused on bringing out the natural beauty of the place: here beams are exposed, the beautiful stonework is apparent and the colour palette is one of soft colours and oat cream linens. Overall the venue is both elegant and boho-chic, minimalist yet cosy.
The region of Vendée, where the Chateau is located, is blessed with some of the sunniest weather in France, so you will be welcome to organise most/all of your celebrations outdoors.

The barn is a gorgeous 180 sq.m room bedecked with guinguette lights that could be used for your cocktail or ceremony in case of bad weather. It is also an ideal spot for the Sunday brunch.
The Guards room is a 165 sq.m. space with 4m high vaults. The chic Chateau atmosphere blends perfectly with the rich historical feeling that this rooms provides. With its soft beige stones and terracotta tiles, it will be an ideal setting for your dinner party. Here you’ll be able to dance until the early hours of the morning!
The Auberge, 75 sq.m., is where you can spend time with your closest friends and family before and after the big day. On your wedding day this room often hosts the children as it provides dedicated furniture for youngsters. It then turns into a cosy pub where friends can gather in chesterfields around the large wooden bar.
Finally regarding the on-site dwelling, Chateau de la Citardière will be able to sleep 27 people on site in 7 bedrooms and a dormitory for 10 people. There is also plenty of accommodation nearby at walking distance.
Things to do nearby: the Chateau is located a few minutes away from Vouvant, a picturesque village officially classified as one of the most beautiful villages of France and home to a stunning Cathedral.
The Mervent forest, a hiker’s paradise, is just a stone’s throw away from the chateau. You will also find there an outdoor leisure center and a zoo.
For a relaxing activity, go and hire a traditional punt to explore the renowned Venise Verte (the Green Venise), which is the second largest marshland in France.
You’ll only be 40 min. from the historical (and rather spectacular) entertainment park Puy du Fou, recently voted best entertainment park in the world.
Finally for all you surfers out there, the chateau is about 1 hr from the Vendée beaches.
