Situated in the South of France, Provence is the epitome of a Euro summer, and perfect for a destination wedding. High-end and highly sought after, Provence is perfect for couples with a healthy budget looking for that quintessential French countryside elegance

The Logistics: The Loire offers majestic chateaux just a short TGV hop from Paris. There are also airports in Tours, Angers, and Nantes.

In this section we’re going to showcase some of our lesser known regions that still have beautiful, and affordable wedding venues in France. From the rugged coast of Brittany to the mountainous French Alps, let’s delve into these hidden gem regions.

Brittany

Brittany is for the couple who wants a wedding with deep character; it’s a land of lighthouses, stone abbeys, and a cool, salty breeze that feels rugged and wild. Because the region is less “commercialised” than Provence, you’ll often find that your budget stretches further for local seafood catering and artisanal Breton cider bars.

The Aesthetic: “Wild Atlantic Romance” – dramatic pink granite cliffs, mystical ancient forests, and emerald-green countryside.

The Logistics: While it feels like a world apart, Brittany is highly accessible. You can take the TGV high-speed train from Paris to Rennes in just 1.5 hours, or fly directly into Nantes, Brest, or Dinard. What we loved during our visit to Chateau du Val, besides its very elegant façade, was the flexibility to create a bespoke event. The owner is not only adorable but also flexible and open to new ideas. Furthermore, she is English herself and, with her list of recommended partners, helps couples organise the entire event.

For the ceremony, you can choose your favourite spot in the large and magical park. Pre-wedding cocktails and canapés are typically served in the château’s front gardens and on the terrace, while the wedding dinner can take place in the elegant salons or a summery marquee. After dinner, guests can admire the château and its outbuildings beautifully lit at night, with the after-party continuing in the Pavilion and flowing onto the cobbled courtyard.

Domaine du Pordor

Can you picture yourself in front of a French château with an impressive lake as a backdrop for your big day? Then the romantic Chateau du Pordor could be the one for you. Located in Brittany, between Rennes and Nantes, this French wedding venue sits at the water’s edge, right at the heart of a 30-hectare estate.

This estate provides an exceptional boho-chic environment with various spaces that can be used throughout your wedding day. On the big day, your guests will marvel at the sight of the château adorned with an abundance of hydrangeas and wisteria. They can then wander down to the ceremony in a tree clearing by the lake. There, wooden benches, an arch and bouquets of wildflowers can be set up to make your blessing a magical moment. The Dordogne & Lot

Located to the east of Bordeaux, and north of Toulouse lies the regions of Dordogne / Lot. You can recognise Dordogne (also called Perigord) and Lot by the style of their buildings, made with the famous golden stones, and their jaw dropping villages often adorned with old medieval castles. Whilst Dordogne is fairly touristic, the Lot is a bit more off the beaten track and is one of France’s best-kept secrets.

Chateau Severin

Chateau Severin offers the perfect setting for a relaxed, romantic wedding. We love the homely and cosy feel of the venue, as well as the French country style decoration.

This 19th century French castle is sympathetically restored throughout and still retains many of its original features. We very much like the quirky bamboo forest that will welcome you once you pass the large gates. Also worth mentioning is the “Chapel”, a vast room with large beams that can sit up to 100 people for a wedding blessing. As an alternative you could have the ceremony outdoors in the Chateau’s verdant park: you’ll just need to pick your favourite spot amongst 10 acres of land!
