Set directly on the banks of the Garonne, Chateau Grattequina is an elegant 19th-century château and four-star hotel just outside Bordeaux. What makes it extra special? Its riverside position! Standing on what was once an island, the château enjoys a setting with real wow factor. With its sweeping terrace overlooking the water, spacious reception areas and private jetty, Château Grattequina offers a wonderfully distinctive backdrop for a sophisticated wedding near Bordeaux.
Chateau Grattequina – a Luxurious Riverside Wedding near Bordeaux
After a spectacular entrance by boat, have your wedding ceremony on the lawn, surrounded by the chateau’s landscaped park. Afterwards, invite your guests to enjoy cocktails on the terrace overlooking the Garonne. And if it rains, the covered 320m² hall offers an elegant alternative.
Dinner and dancing take place in the Pavilion, a spacious reception room equipped with lighting and a sound system. Thanks to its mezzanines, the space works beautifully for weddings of between 50 and 250 guests. For larger celebrations, dinner can be held beneath the covered hall, followed by dancing in the Pavilion, increasing the capacity to as many as 330 guests.
A separate 80m² room is also available for younger guests, giving them somewhere to play, watch films and sleep under the supervision of babysitters.
The celebrations don’t have to end on the wedding night. The following day, gather everyone together again for a relaxed brunch.
Accommodation and Facilities at Chateau Grattequina
Chateau Grattequina is a beautifully restored four-star hotel with ten spacious bedrooms and suites. Some overlook the park and gardens, while others offer views across the Garonne. We appreciate the premium standard of the rooms that combine the character of a historic château with contemporary comfort.
Guests staying on site can also enjoy the heated outdoor swimming pool and sauna.
Just 4 km away, in Bordeaux-Lac, you’ll also find a further 1,000 rooms across a wide range of accommodation options, making it easy to accommodate all your additional guests.
Another big advantage is the location. Central Bordeaux is just 8 kilometres away, while the vineyards of the Médoc can be reached in around 15 minutes. Saint-Émilion and the Bay of Arcachon are also within easy reach, giving your guests plenty to explore if they decide to extend their stay.
Why We Selected Chateau Grattequina
We were immediately taken with Chateau Grattequina’s unusual riverside setting and classic luxury. And then, of course, there is the possibility of arriving aboard the château’s 12-passenger boat with your best men and bridesmaids. What a way to make an entrance!
This connection with the river is woven into the château’s history. Grattequina was originally an island before being joined to the banks of the Garonne in 1860.
It is this combination that makes Château Grattequina stand out: a spectacular waterside arrival, impressive reception spaces, luxury accommodation and a location within easy reach of Bordeaux. It feels glamorous without being overly formal – and offers the perfect setting for a wedding that is both seriously stylish and genuinely good fun.
