Chateau Lefort, in South of France near Montpellier, is a unique wedding venue: it is an authentic medieval castle classified as โmonument historiqueโ, which has been beautifully and respectfullyย restoredย over the last 20 years.ย
The chateau is located in a totally unspoilt region of South France: the volcanic area of lโEscandorgue, a succession of rolling hills displaying an incredible patchwork of vibrant red soil (specific to this part of France) and lush green vegetation.
The arrival to the village is spectacular, with the Chateau and its imposing fortified walls appearing at the top of the hill.
Then discover the impressive 12th century facade, a cream wall with small medieval windows framed by a large lawned courtyard and a vineyard above.
Although the chateau has a grand feel, we love the fact it still remains homely and intimate.
Pass the large wooden door to discover the 17th century โcour dโhonneurโ, a charming patio with gemeled windows. There you could have your blessing.
Alternatively, there is also (800m further on) a wonderful church that could host your ceremony.
The “vin dโhonneur” (reception drinks) will be held on the lawn of the chateau. There is a covered gallery which would also be used as a shaded area if itโs too sunny.
The dinner will take place in the former “Ecuries” (horse stables), an impressive vaulted room that can sit up to 130 people.
Finally the chateau can sleep up to 20 people on site: 2 people in the bridal suite in the chateau, 16 people in 3 self-catering cottages, and 2 people in the tower. Donโt miss going to the top of the towers to discover an astonishing 360ยบ view of the valley.
There is also accommodation in the village (walking distance) for up to 37 people and more accommodation in the villages around for all your extra guests.
On the day after, why not have a delicious local paella or BBQ with all your guests in the grounds of the domaine? The owner could also offer a complimentary guided tour of his chateau.
To summarise, Chateau Lefort would be perfect for a couple who is looking at getting married in a romantic venue in a region of France off the beaten track.
The kind owner Bertrand, who speaks English, will be on hand to answer any questions and will also help you book the accommodation for your guests.
Things to do in the area: The chateau is located in an area of France which is perfect for outdoor lovers as you are surrounded by nature there. Fifteen minutes away discover the beautiful Lac Salagou, where you’ll be able to enjoy a lot of watersports. There is also a pool 10 minutes by car from the chateau and the sea (Cap d’Agde) is 50 minutes away. You will find a supermarket and all the amenities you need in the village La Tour d’Orb just 10 minutes away.
