Set in the heart of the Camargue, Domaine du Petit Malherbes has all the ingredients for a memorable destination wedding in the South of France. Golden Gard stone, teal shutters, and a vast tree-filled park give the estate instant character, while its history adds another layer: dating back to 1789, the former wine estate was once owned by Victor Hugo’s family! Despite its peaceful setting, it is also ideally located just 35 minutes from both Nîmes and Montpellier.
A Wedding Venue in the Camargue with Plenty of French Charm
There are several beautiful settings to choose from for your wedding day. Exchange your vows beneath the pine trees in the Mediterranean ceremony area, with the pond in the background, or opt for the more formal French garden and its stone dome. Afterwards, the 40-hectare park provides plenty of space for an outdoor cocktail.
For dinner, the former wine cellar has been transformed into a dazzling reception room, with exposed stone and space for up to 180 seated guests. If you would rather dine outside, a 250 m² marquee is also provided during the mid and high season and can accommodate up to 200 guests. Later, head back inside for dancing, with the party able to continue until 5am.
And because the estate is yours for three days, there is time to enjoy it beyond the wedding itself. The pool area is ideal for a relaxed get-together before the wedding or a brunch the following day.
Domaine du Petit Malherbes: All Your Guests Together for Your Destination Wedding in France
One of Domaine du Petit Malherbes’ biggest advantages is its exceptional sleeping capacity: up to 120 guests can stay directly on the estate. Accommodation is spread across Mas Cigale and Mas Lavande, two apartments, a bungalow, three lodges and eight tipis.
We particularly like the option of the lodges and tipis. They add something a little different to the weekend and make it possible for a large proportion of your guests to stay together, rather than dispersing to hotels after the celebrations.
Between wedding events, everyone can gather around the pool or simply enjoy the park and grounds. Having so many guests staying in one place helps turn the wedding into a proper few days away together rather than a single-day celebration.
Why We Selected Domaine du Petit Malherbes
For us, Domaine du Petit Malherbes ticks so many boxes for a destination wedding in France: beautiful architecture, history, generous reception spaces and the rare possibility of accommodating 120 guests on site.
But the people behind the venue are just as important. Owners Manon and Richard came to the domaine with hands-on wedding experience, having previously worked as wedding caterers. They understand how weddings work behind the scenes and are wonderful, attentive hosts. For couples planning from overseas, having that experience on site can be incredibly reassuring.
We also love how much is already taken care of here. From the reception spaces and marquee to the accommodation, furniture and trusted suppliers, the foundations for an entire wedding weekend are already in place.
With its history, warm southern character and exceptional capacity, Domaine du Petit Malherbes makes it remarkably easy to gather your favourite people in one place and give them a real taste of a superb French wedding.
